Karnataka style aalu-bhat | rice recipe
Here’s a Karnataka special Aloo Bhat recipe — a flavorful spiced rice dish made with potatoes (aloo), cooked in Karnataka-style masala, often served as a comforting meal.

๐ฅ Ingredients:
For the rice:
1 cup rice (sona masuri or basmati)
1 medium potatoes – peeled and cubed
1 onion – finely sliced
1-2 green chilies – slit
1 tsp ginger-garlic paste(optional)
Salt as per taste
2 tbsp oil or ghee
For tempering:
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp roasted peanuts or cashews (optional)
Karnataka-style masala (roast & grind):
1 tsp coriander seeds
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp chana dal
1 tbsp urad dal
2 dry red chilies
1-inch cinnamon stick
2 cloves
1 tbsp grated coconut (fresh or dry)
> Dry roast the above ingredients till aromatic and grind to a coarse powder.

Prepare Masala:
Dry roast the masala ingredients and grind to a coarse powder. Set aside.
In a cooker, heat oil/ghee. Add cumin seeds Once they splutter, add peanut
Add sliced onions and sautรฉ till soft.
Add cubed potatoes, turmeric, and salt. Sprinkle a little water, cover, and cook till soft.
. Add Masala:
Sautรฉ for 2-3 minutes till the mixture is aromatic
Add the rice and gently mix everything together.
Adjust salt. Add lemon juice and garnish with coriander leaves ,add water as per need and closed the cooker lid.
Wait for 2 whistle
Aalu bhat is ready enjoy with chutni ,raita,curd.
